About Me

Hi!  I teach Kindergarten at VES, and I love spending my day with our youngest students and interacting with many others from grades one to six.  This year begins my 21st year of teaching, and my 17th year with our VES family.

I grew up in this great community, and then I attended the University of Alberta to receive my Bachelor of Education degree with a minor in Early Childhood Education.  I got my first teaching job in Wainwright. After a few years there, my husband started a new job in Vermilion, so we moved back, and I began teaching Grade One in the same school I had attended as a child and with some teachers who had taught me.  I really enjoyed teaching Grade One! A few years later when the opportunity arose, I decided to return to Kindergarten. I have always been passionate about teaching young children, because I find their natural curiosity and enthusiasm inspiring. I am very grateful for the support I have had over the years from my administration, colleagues, and wonderful educational assistants.  They have allowed me to teach students in a safe, caring environment where we can all learn, make mistakes, and be the best we can be!

My husband, Marty, and I have 3 children that also keep us busy.  Our oldest daughter, Taylor, is in her second year at Lakeland College working towards her Bachelor of Education Degree.  Jayden, our second daughter, is in Grade 11, and Mitchell, our youngest, is in Grade 8. For many years, we have enjoyed cheering them on in several sports, such as volleyball, basketball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and baseball.  I like being active as well by going for runs with my dog, swimming, and doing yoga classes when I can.

I am looking forward to another fabulous year in Kindergarten helping students develop their skills academically, socially, and physically.  I want to help students see that patience, perseverance, and hard work can help them learn many new things. I strive to plan activities that make learning active, motivating, and fun!  My hope is that all of my students will be excited to come to school and know they belong to a school family that cares for them now and in the future.
