Greg Haslehurst
Teacher 3B
I have been teaching in Vermilion since 2000. My wife Carmen and I have raised our family here. We enjoy supporting the numerous sports and artistic opportunities that Vermilion offers. As parents, we were involved with organizing, coaching, and volunteering with the organizations our daughters, Crimson and Sierra, participated in.
I attended the University of Alberta completing both my Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees there. In my spare time I run a photography studio taking sports and family photos. Also, I teach Taekwondo with Raptor Taekwondo here in Vermilion. I am a certified World Taekwondo Federation, 5th Dan black belt.
I began my teaching career in 1993. I have taught junior and senior high school, including Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Biology 30. I began teaching elementary school in 2001.
Vermilion Elementary School believes in “Being the Best We Can Be” and I have several beliefs that help guide my teaching achieve this:
- I believe that every student is unique with different needs and strengths.
- learning how to learn will benefit your child throughout their lifetime.
- mistakes are a part of the learning process. They can be corrected, and we can learn from them.
- I provide the opportunities and challenges for deep learning to occur throughout the lesson and year.
- development of the whole child (social, emotional, and academic) is important.
- student actions and choices influence how effective their learning is.
- the school, myself, and parents all play an important role in supporting a child’s education and development.
I am looking forward to another great year.
